10 Apps That Save You Money While Shopping

I don’t know about you, but I love shopping. Even better, I love saving and making money while I’m doing it. If you are behind me at the checkout at Target, I feel sorry for you, because I am there with my coupons, bags, Cartwheel, mobile coupons, and I’m probably paying with more than one gift card that I’ve earned on one of my many apps, or made off of a previous purchase. I digress. My Target shopping sprees are for a different post. This one is about apps! There are many apps that you can use to both earn cash back on your purchases, earn gift cards while shopping, and even earn money by doing short little mystery shops on your phone. My kids love helping out too! As soon as we get to the store they are opening their phones and mobile devices to earn their own money (gotta teach them young).

Here is a list of 10 of my favorite shopping apps:

Ibotta

This has to be one of my favorite rebate apps! It is so easy to scan items and snap a picture of the receipt. My favorite is Walmart though, because you can just scan the QR code at the bottom of the receipt. It is so easy! The money generally is in your account within 24 hours (often much sooner than that) and there are bonuses!
Minimum payout – $20
Payout options – Paypal, venmo, and several gift card options

Shopkick

This is my favorite shopping app. The kids love to run around the store scanning items, and if you make sure to get your points for entering the store, they rack up pretty quickly. I love how little the payout is too! $2 for a Target gift card!
Minimum payout – $2 with some gift cards
Payout options – several gift card options

Cartwheel by Target

If you shop at Target, this app is a must have! To date, I have saved $299.57! That is amazing. All you have to do is scan items with the app as you are shopping to see if there is a Cartwheel offer available for that item. If there is, add it to your list of offers. At checkout, scan your personal barcode and the savings will automatically appear in your total.

Checkout 51

This app is similar to ibotta. This is a rebate app. It is a little simpler to use, but I have found that it takes me longer to get to the minimum payout.
Minimum payout – $20
Payout options – paper check only

Receipt Hog

This app takes awhile to get to the minimum payout, but it is so easy to use, and you don’t have to buy anything special to use it. All you have to do is snap pics of your receipts. Each receipt is awarded coins, that can be redeemed for several different things including PayPal, Amazon gift cards, or magazine subscriptions. I usually stick to the PayPal option.
Minimum payout – (depends on the option you choose) For Paypal, 1000 coins = $5
Payout options – Paypal, Amazon gift card, magazine subscriptions

Hip2Save

This is by far my favorite blog/app. I have been following this blog for years! It not only helps me save tons of money, but get free things as well. This blog has several posts a day with great deals on Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc. It also posts freebies, coupon deals, and so much more! I have the app on all of my mobile devices and check them throughout the day to make sure I don’t miss out on any deals. There are also occasional recipes, craft ideas, videos, and contests. There is a great video tutorial about how to set up a coupon binder with free printables. I live off of this blog, seriously!

mobiSave

This is a rebate app similar to Checkout 51 and ibotta. It is good to use as many of these apps in order to optimize saving! There are many any brand rebates on this app too. Love it! This app automatically deposits your savings from each receipt into your Paypal account.

Gigwalk

This is an app where you get paid for tasks; very similar to mystery shopping. You could be taking pictures or might be asked questions about a particular location. There are many different types of “gigs” and they vary by location.

Mobee

Mobee is also a mystery shopping type app. Basically, you are asked several questions about a particular location, might be asked to interact with employees, but not to reveal yourself as a shopper. For some jobs, you might be asked to make a small purchase (mine are usually around $2) and submit your receipt. Payment is in points, but 1 point = 1 penny. So if a job is 750 points, it is basically $7.50.
Minimum payout – $5 unless making a donation
Payout type – gift cards

Amazon

Why Amazon? Because many stores will price match to Amazon prices, which can lead to huge savings! Amazon has very competitive prices, and if you are already out and about it doesn’t hurt to ask if they price match to Amazon. I keep this app on my phone and scan products as I am shopping.

So there is a list of 10 of my favorite shopping apps. I do have more, but I don’t want to overwhelm you! Try these out and see if you like them. I would love to hear your feedback! Comment below with your favorite money saving apps. I have included my referral links above on some of these apps, and feel free to share yours as well! Happy Shopping!
